The hallways here at West Jefferson High School have begun to shine brighter with the introduction of the Renaissance movement by Mrs. Miller and the student council. This movement plans to bring a more inclusive atmosphere and environment to the students.
The Renaissance movement is a new movement to West Jefferson, but it was not the first school to start a movement like this. Many other schools across the nation have begun to implement these types of things in an attempt to elevate the atmosphere and ensure that all students get involved and feel welcomed at their school.
As far as here, I got to sit down with Mrs. Miller and Mr. Olsen, two of the biggest spearheads of this movement and asked them about what we can expect here at West Jefferson. “One of the big things we’re trying to promote...”, said Mr. Olsen, “...is celebrating everybody...whether it's just for being a great person or being a great student in the classroom.”
When asked what inspired this movement, Mrs. Miller responded with, “It’s been in the works for a couple of years, we’ve been to different conferences that have been promoting this...and it's just something that I became passionate about.”
As far as what we as the students are capable of contributing to the betterment of this movement, Mr. Olsen stated: “I’d say be active, whether it is those rallies we have or something else to get kids involved, and Mrs. Miller has done a really great job of promoting that.”
So, to ensure the betterment of our school's atmosphere, be sure to participate, get involved and most importantly, spread nothing but positive vibes this year and years beyond.
