Hotdogs. It’s either a hit or miss. No one knows what they’re made out of, but that’s never stopped Americans from enjoying the little rubbery tube of meat between bread. But what are hotdogs, what are they really?

Humans have faced this controversial opinion for decades, and no one can ever really give us a straight answer.

In my opinion, hotdogs are subs. They’re shaped like subs, they go in between two slices of sub-like buns, and the bread is just like those at subway. The texture, everything.

I guess you can use regular bread as a bun but let’s face it, that’s nasty.

In an article from USA Today, it states, “ a hotdog is not a sandwich,” according to an official press release from the National Hotdog and Sausage Council.”

Another article called The Atlantic states that a hotdog is not a sandwich because it has “exterior pieces, is carb based, is portable, and does not lay horizontally.

If you were to lay a hotdog horizontally, all the ingredients would fall out. The same goes for a sub. If you were to lay a sandwich horizontally, the ingredients would stay inside the sandwich. What do you call that?

I don’t necessarily agree with the second statement from the Atlantic because both sandwiches and subs have exterior pieces, however, hotdogs are carb based, just like subs.

Sandwiches aren’t necessarily carb based, because the bread is just way thinner than sub bread.

Hotdogs are also a lot more portable than a sandwich. If you were to have a baggie for the sandwich, yes, it would be portable, but if you were walking a sub is a lot less messy and more portable than a sandwich.

There are very good points made from both sides of the spectrum, however, if you hear from it from the National Hotdog and sausage Council that hotdogs are, in fact, subs, then you can’t argue with that.

Will this article ever help anyone in their future? I hope so, spreading this valuable information across the interwebs makes me happy, and other sausage lovers happy.

Will I ever eat a hotdog that’s not made out of tofu? Probably not. But does it put a smile on my face to answer people’s problems? Absolutely.

So keep a smile on your face, and enjoy.. whatever they put into that tube of meat. Now, what are hotdogs made of? Haha, that’s a story for another time.
