This holiday season is approaching fast, and many students from West Jefferson are preparing for their favorite holiday traditions and activities. According to a school-wide poll, most students attending WJHS will be celebrating Christmas over the break, although a few will celebrate Hanukkah.
Based on the poll results, 23.7% of students are going somewhere special for holiday break. Amongst these places are Africa, a cruise to Mexico, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Pennsylvania, Chicago, and many, many students will be taking a trip to their grandparents’ house.
As for the most anticipated gifts of the season, students said that they’re most looking forward to getting money and/or gift cards. An ample amount of students also said they would enjoy receiving a new phone, clothes, or Airpods. Amongst other responses were laptops, books, new shoes, fishing and hunting items, and Apple watches. A few students even said that the number one thing on their gift list was to be able to spend time with their family.
In reference to the poll, 56% of students answered that their favorite part was getting out of school. Other responses include spending time with their family, spending times with their friends, and even sleeping. Also, 72% of students also said they they enjoy giving presents over receiving presents. They also responded with some activities they enjoy taking part in over break, and making cookies and opening gifts came out on top. Other activities include drinking hot chocolate, playing in the snow, and watching holiday movies.
The final poll question asked students to respond with their favorite holiday tradition. There were a variety of responses, but many included eating food and spending time with family. More specifically, responses ranged from making gingerbread houses, watching the movie “Perks of Being a Wallflower”, playing board games, and listening to Christmas music. One student responded that their favorite holiday tradition is “putting the silver sleigh bell on the Christmas tree that my Gramps gave me before he passed away”.
In all, this holiday season seems to be full of exciting times to look forward to and packed with plenty of fun winter activities and holiday traditions for the students of West Jefferson High School to take part in. Happy holidays and stay safe this season!
