Days after Brett Kavanaugh testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, organizers of the Women’s March announced that they plan to hold an international march on January 19, 2019. The main protest will be focused in Washington D.C., but marches are currently being planned in major cities across the globe.
“We are outraged. We are organized. They forgot that 5 million women lit the world on fire two years ago. On January 19, 2019, we’re going to remind them when we flood the streets of Washington, D.C., and with sister marches in cities across the globe. Save the date: The #WomensWave is coming, and we’re sweeping the world forward with us.”
On January 21, 2017, millions women gathered for the first time in cities across the world in protest. This protest didn’t just include women’s rights; the Women’s March organization also focuses on LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, workers’ rights, disability rights, immigration rights, and environmental issues. It is estimated that next year’s march will focus on the appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh and other social issues regarding sexual assault, however the march, like past marches, will be encompassing of all of the organization’s main focuses.
For those interested in attending the protest in January, Rally, a “crowdpowered” travel organization, will be offering transportation by bus from Hilliard, Ohio to the march in Washington D.C.The round-trip from Columbus to Washington D.C. is $85, however this price will increase after October 21st. The number of seats available decreases everyday, so confirm yours now!
A majority of the students that I have spoken to at West Jefferson High School explained that they were unaware of the Women’s March planned for January, as well as the transportation available. However, many of the students stated they definitely had an interest in attending the march.
